19th April
We were impressed with the casting service to the room television - we watched The Choral on Netflix - it was enjoyable and served to offset the slight feeling of disappointment with the selection of our holiday venue.
We awoke late determined to be positive - off to breakfast and the funniest sight I have seen in my life - but how to describe it? - i'll try with words but I wish I had had the courage to photograph it - a tiny young heavily tattooed young women - she wears a stretchy, woven nylon dress that reaches from mid boob to mid bum - she was not fat but she is not thin - we see her from behind as she bends over the continental breakfast counter - the dress hem responds to her forward lean by slowly riding up until the natural curvature of her bum causes it to rapidly expose the full extent of her generous cheeks - she is not fussed after all she knows she has her bikini on underneath - "not funny" says you - "funny' says Bernie and I because that bikini was a high quality, finely crafted g-string that fitted so perfectly that it fitted with such precision that it not reveal itself in the vista she shared with us!
Being"mooned" by a young mother in the middle of breakfast is not something we will easily forget.
I show Bernie the pool and we become more optimistic about her ability to access it -
We approach via the handrailed steps - wow! - careful that rail is shaky - the pool attendant is under the impression that his job is the smile and say "bulla" rather than making sure it is safe - I look careful at the rail - at least one of the base bolts is secure - "go ahead" Bernie - she successfully achieves entry - the pool a delight - she walks and she walks and I swim and swim - we love it! -
We smile at the number of sun lounges with strategically placed personal towels achieving effective reservation of prime lounging places - the number of towels far outweighed the two or three people actually using the pool. How people can think this is acceptable behavior is beyond me
We reluctantly retire - a nap for the over exercised Bernie - we look at one another - we are enjoying this!
We lunch then sit and watch as the newbies arrive on the catamaran from Port Denarau - Bernie's head is back against the headrest - she is barely awake - time for her to rest.
I continue to reflect on the clientele - lots of tattoos. The bearers more female than male - their attractiveness of dubious quality - one that jumped to conclusions easily might decide that they were of the bogan category but an appreciation of the cash laid out to be here must cast doubt about that assumption.
There are honeymooners here but they are of the mature type - there are couples here with little kids - there are a lesser number of mature couples without kids - we are clearly the old timers!
The place is less than busy - the staff active and attentive almost to a fault - this is clearly an important place for employment of the local community. It is a pity that Sheridan and Marriott have not provided them with physical facilities on a par with the quality of their service.
We dine in the Indian restaurant - again the service and attention is exemplary - the food just adequate - as Bernie says "ok pub food"
