Our last day on the island.  We sit on the deck again - breakfast - we watch the snorkelers - we watch our fellow guests - we photograph the flowers - we watch the resort workers go about their business - we try to determine which of the new guests were they ones that just arrived by helicopter.    The fish are to be fed at 11:00 - we gather - Bernie cannot make it on to the beach - we watch from the deck.  A glass of wine - we sit and watch the sunbakers, the body shielders and the occasional male exhibitionist gather in and around the swim up bar. Finally we manage to resist  the temptation to eat - we retire for the afternoon's nap. Private function -  our favorite spring place is out of bounds - we so it inside for a while - we drink too much - we account to a dinner table - to early for dinner but the view magnificent - we sit - a waiter approaches - you have a wedding tonight - weddi...

Up early for our swim - the weather is just a little colder and so our entry into the water is just a little slower. We quickly adjust and enjoy the exercise - we are successful in deluding  ourselves that it will completely offset the deleterous effects of our recent dining habits. When are you leaving? - two more days! - enjoy.  Of course we can have breakfast! - we need it after all that exercise! - our delusions continue!  Food and exercise - a combination that cannot exist for us without adding a generous serving of sleep.  We wake - Bernie plays teenager as she swipes and swipes her way through Instagram. We sit at lunch discussing our fellow guests - he is a financier says Bernie - look at that one year old - he is sitting there with a screen! - oh I wish those bikini clad young ladies would cover up at least in the dining environs! - is it just our aging mentality or is it a bit off? - ask the teenage themselves says Bernie. We look ou...

Anzac day - no sign of it here - Bernie walks easily to the pool - she is pleased.  We share the pool with the snorkel equipped pool attendant as he vacuums the floor of the pool - he surfaces from time to time - he is cautious of collision with the lapping swimmer.  We take breakfast slowly - we watch the people - the clientele just a little older than earlier days - most late thirties - plenty of tattoos - couples of all gender combinations and physical makeups - pot bellies not in short supply - plenty of clientele that clearly have no access to appropriate mirrors by  which they could obtain an idea of the what they look like to others. We look at the entertainment  board - some trivia - some crab races - a walk to the microwave tower - kokoda making - Bernie shows some interest in the latter! Back to the room - we know how to relax now!  Today's leavers are about to depart - they are collected in the reception area and farewell begins - serenades - a group ...

We are laid back - laze around - no swimming today - as we walk to breakfast Bernie regrets our slackness - not stiff this morning says she We meet the spa lady on her way to work - you are coming for treatment today?  The resort is still under-occupied - there is  space everywhere - breakfast uncrowded - people slow and relaxed save for the occasional young mother suffering the malaise that all young mothers endure from time to time. A photograph of an island water lily We return to our room - we have a big day in front of us - a massage! - it might be all that the old couple can manage for the day. We survive the massage - muse on the cost of massages at resorts - on cruise ships - FJ$225 - they are not paying the masseuse anymore than FJ$35 - big markup!!! - no wonder they are so heavily promoted.  We sleep off the massage - sit quietly at dinner listening to the Fijian singer cover Adele - very talented - more talent than her performance venue justifies.

The weather's gurus are not optimistic - to the pool - Bernie is almost running - she is the best she has been on the trip - we exercise - the pool is our own - the bushes proudly show off their flowers Time for our road trip - 50 meter to breakfast - the weather holding together - the wind picks up a little - the seas respond to its encouragement.  Bernie heads of for her nail appointment at the spa. She returns by cart an hour later - the rain has arrived and has announced it's decision to stay for a while.  Bernie regales me with her interactions with the tiny fijian  spa girl - her mum is in charge - you should work in the spa the mother t old her daughter - good money - best at the resort says she - my brother is the zoomba person at port denarau says the daughter.  I wonder whether the officials at the Marriott bonVoy recognize the critical nature of their business venture to the well being of the local Fijians? Bernie continues with her tales of the spa...

Yesterday a day off rest - today? Up at 7 for a swim - everyone well.  The pool to ourselves with the new goggles working a treat. I lap while Bernie treads - she is thriving after a day off rest.  Breakfast puts me in a mood to photograph the flowers of tokoriki.
