18th April

The rain came down last night - poured down - thunder clapped - we slept.

We wake - I wander -People are nice - bulla bulla - everyone - natural or management contrived? - natural? - yesterday workers waiting at a bus stop -; one calls to another - they all smile and give Bernie space as she passes.

The golf course is moderately occupied and only one couple occupy the generous pool - the Cafe at the pool is open - the staff keen on attracting me in.

We check out - all paid says she - I worry - which card did that come from?

To the ferry and Tokorikki Island - we will pay a fuel surcharge - we fully pay it - they take our bags  - they are tagged - be back at 11:30

The women from the plane is fully healed and has joined us at port denarau - she and her partners are drinking beer at 10am - perhaps we should revise the account of her injuries.

There is faint smell of curry - I briefly remember the spice markets of old Delhi -  the smell reflects the historical Indian influence in Fiji - people in Fiji from  everywhere now says Simi

The delightful demeanour of the Fijians continues

It is Hot and humid and sunshiny and sometimes breezy

We had off to Tokorikki - I listen to the voices - The voices are almost exclusively English - australians - just the occasional Japanese voice.

The catamaran stops briefly to Drop off day trippers at the Beach the club - onwards

We reach Tokorikki - Bernie is transferred from catamaran to tender and from tender to beach and from beach to reception with care and respect.

We dine while we await our room - they have decided that the allocated room is too far from the action for Bernie.

We make our first discovery about the resort - the bar manager has clearly been in Norway recently and decided that the application of Norwegian alcohol prices  is an excellent way of maximizing income from customers trapped on a tropical island.

We settle in - I wander around - something reminds me of Mallorca - perhaps it was the aging French resort that we enjoyed so much - the Sheridan at Tokorikki? - an aging establishment - concrete paths not quite professionally repaired - ornate bollards not quite straight - electrical conduit not quite concealed in the stone walls - exterior lights not quiet working - the room generously basic.

We nap then go to verify that Norwegian alcohol price are universal across the resort - a drink each later we confirm that indeed they are - we sign off on a  charge back to the room of FJ$52

We sit outside watching the night assume dominance over the day - delightful - we are relaxed

We escape from the threat of mosquitos into the central dining and amenities area - it is obviously where the maintenance people concentrate their efforts - delightful, neat, well maintained.

Tonight we will dine on an Asian fusion buffet tomorrow we will look at people.
